Yesteryear Collection

The Great Dorset Steam Fair
The Great Dorset Steam Fair is a show that has something for everyone, whatever your interests! Maybe you are a collector, a steam fanatic, an exhibitor, a heavy horse fan, an avid camper, a music fan or just on holiday in the South of England over the August Bank Holiday weekend and fancy an excursion to what is described as the most remarkable show on earth!

The first rally took place in 1969 in fields close to the River Stour near to Stourpaine about 3 miles from Blandford.
By 1971 the show had moved up the road to the immortal "Stourpaine Bushes" site and steadily began to grow in popularity and size, then, after many trouble-free years, disaster! With just three weeks to go to the 1985 show, the site was lost following a dispute with the landowner. Miraculously a new site was found just a mile away at Everley Hill and arrangements were hastily made to re-house the show there. This site served the show well for three years, but a bigger, more permanent site was needed.

A deal was agreed with a local farmer to hold the Steam Fair on his land at Tarrant Hinton. The site at Tarrant Hinton was fabulous, the natural undulating Dorset landscape lending itself brilliantly to the features and attractions of the show. Since moving there in 1988 the show has seen massive growth and is now held on over 600 acres.

Due to Covid-19 the 52nd Great Dorset Steam Fair was postponed until 2022.

Great Dorset Steam Fair Models
The first Models of Yesteryear model was issued in 1986 for the 18th Steam Fair at Stourpaine Bushes and was the Y18 Atkinson Steam Wagon. All models in this collection was produced by Les Andrews, Marshfield, Wilts with the last one being a Y27 1922 Foden Steam Wagon for the 42nd Steam Fair at Blandford, Dorset in 2010.

Original pieces of Great Dorset Steam Fair memorabilia were offered for sale following the decision by the Great Dorset Steam Fair's Board of Directors to reduce the scale of authentic archive material. Some of these listed items come from the Great Dorset Steam Fair's own collection and are of a vast range of original pieces sold through ebay. 100% of monies raised by the seller went towards the Great Dorset Steam Fair Ltd to benefit future shows.

Oxford Diecast has been attending the show for many years and since 2010 have started to produce a special show model in a commerative wrap. These have become collectors items, with some making sure they collect every one in the range.
